2009 ABA SUMMER NATIONALS, Roseville, CA 4th of July weekend

There are 2 gaurantees when you go to Roseville in July for an ABA National. It is going to be hot and the racing is going to be even hotter. The Factory GHP Race team showed up and put some great results in to finish 3rd on Saturday.

The mains started of great with the Pros electing to race 1 moto due to the heat. The Gate dropped and Stumpy was gone. He rode strong all weekend, but this lap was perfect. When he came across the finish line no one was even close. He followed up on sunday with a Second, spliting the motos with Strombergs. Moto 2 was so close that it was decided after watching the video and Stumpy got it.

Other wins from the GHP team came from Don Fisher in 31C, making a move in the first turn and never looking back. Congrats, this was a big win for Fisher. Also Robby Patterson was strong as always winning 17-18 C on Saturday with a bump and run move on Klatman in the last turn. In 17-18X he finished a strong second. Sunday was a different story, we should have known that it would be tougher for Robby when he came walking out of the trailer and tripped missing the steps and landed on his back. Someone so gracefull on the track should be able to manuever down three steps pretty easily, but not so.

Zach Zito came back from a broken hand in Bakersfield to make all 4 of his mains and finishing as high as fourth in the tough 13x class. New GHP Factory rider Robert Gulvin finished 4th and 8th in the 13X class and showed great speed over the weekend. He seems to like his new bike and is a great addition to the team.

Robert Harris Vet pro came out to do battle and battle it was. He finished off the weekend with a couple of 6ths. He hit the ground and came came back to get in the mix. Stephanie Baldwin took 2 fourths in the 9G class and finished 5th on her cruiser sunday making herself a 100% main maker over the weekend.

This was a very positive weekend for GHP and we would like to thank all of our sponsors. Tiogo, Rhythm/Crupi, Troy Lee Designs, ODI, Capital Contractors, and HRP Designs

GHP HITS ROCKFORD ILLINOIS

GHP factory riders Randy Stumphauser, John Purse, Robert Harris and Ted “Pedro” Brown headed out for the ABA’s Midwest Nationals in Rockford IL.

The competition was stacked in all classes, especially the Elite and AA pro class. Randy has been training hard and it’s really showing in his first straight pull. Both days he ran hard up front and finished just off the box in 4th place.

Vet Pro had both factory riders in the main. Robert Harris and “The Jackal” John Purse made mains on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was hard on both riders with JP sliding out in the second turn and Robert getting caught up in the carnage. Sunday John would finish on the podium in second, Harris in 7th.

In who can only be described as one of the most improved riders of the year Ted “Pedro” Brown has been on a rampage through the National circuit. Ted put his Factory cruiser on top the podium both days in 31-35 cruiser.

Look for Hill and the gang in California at the ABA Summer Nationals July 3rd – 5th.

GHP would like to thank their sponsors. Troy Lee Designs, ODI, HRP Designs, Capital Contracting and Rythem.

GHP STEPS IT UP AT BAKERSFIELD

After Phoenix Greg has spent alot of time working with the team to get them up to par. The training paid off with a 4th on Sunday and The Jackal taking 2 more wins from the vets.

Stumpy has been working hard and showed how fast he is. Over the weekend he took a 3rd on Saturday and a 2nd on Sunday. All weekend he was out front and came close to beating Strombergs several times. The Jackal has deciced that no one else is going to beat him this year. All weekend long Greg and John were talking strategies and motivation. It paid off and is one step closer to his goals.

New found motivation for 9 year old Stephanie Baldwin. She has stepped it up huge since her last showing and finished the weekend with a 4th and 3rd for 9g and than taking a 3rd on cruiser sunday. Other outstanding amatuer finishes came from Robbie Patterson who doubled in 17-20 cruiser and than a 7th and 3rd in the super fast 17-18x. He has found his place in this class and seems to smooth out each race.

Along with the good there is bad, which Zach Zito and Ted Brown found the ground. Ted was off to a good start transfering 1st round on cruiser and he can't remember what happened in class. What we hear is that he took a dive in the fist turn and than went to the hospital to get his cat scanned. All was well but out for the weekend. Zach was showing some new speed in 13 cruiser when he went in to the the 2nd turn taking him and his buddy Cole Proctor out for the day. Zach took sunday off and found out that he broke his hand when he got home.

The racing was awesome and Bakersfield kept the track nice all weekend even after a full night of rain on friday. Thanks goes out to our sponsors for always taking care of us especially Crupi, HRP, and ODI, these guys go out of there way to set us up.

GHP would like to thank their sponsors: Troy Lee Designs, Tioga Tires, Odi Grips, Capital Contractors, LDC, And Rhythm/Crupi.

GHP FACTORY RACE REPORT FROM THE WINTERNATIONALS

This is the first time in 5 years that we have gone to Phoenix for the ABA winter nationals that the weather was perfect. It was about 75 and sunny all weekend long.

This set the tone for The Jackal to dominate. John Purse came out fast and smooth Saturday for the UCI event and won every moto of the day to add another win to his dominating pro career. As a team manager this is what you hope for. The guy shows up, is prepared, wins all of his motos, promotes GHP like crazy, stops for every autograph and picture, and never complains.

John added a third on Sunday to his 6 wins for the year and 72 pro career wins. The focus he shows in the pits is incredible, nothing seems to phase him.

In addition to Johns performance GHP had 2 other standouts for the weekend. Ted (PEDRO) Brown flew out from Wisconsin to take two seconds in 31-35 cruiser and a second in 28-35 X on sunday. He has had a long layoff and came back to show what he was all about. Don Fisher followed Pedro on cruiser to a 3rd and 4th for the weekend. These two have been
battling for years and it looks like they will be keeping each other motivated.

The rest of the GHP crew will be training hard with Greg Hill in the next few weeks to get on the top of the podium.

GHP would like to thank their sponsors: Troy Lee Designs, Tioga Tires, Odi Grips, Capital Contractors, LDC, And Rhythm/Crupi.

LAUREN REYNOLDS TO HIT UP THE ABA GRANDS!
Look for some added excitement in the Girl Pro class at the ABA Grands in Tulsa, Oklahoma over Thanksgiving, as Australian Lady Pro Sensation, Lauren Reynolds makes her debut Girl Pro appearance in America!

Fresh off blasting her way into winning the Senior Elite State Title in Western Australia, Lauren has set her sites on making a name for herself in the good old U.S of A.

This year has been hugely successful for this young Factory GHP/Fly rider where her overall UCI Ranking is #1, along with a dominating National Junior Elite #1 Title.

To come and race at the Grands is a Dream come true and Lauren is looking forward to the hard paced challenge.

The word out there is that this Girl Can Fly.

In her latest Title win, Lauren was jumping sections even the Junior Elite boys weren’t jumping.

At this years Adelaide Supercross, many spectators saw her as one of the first and few women to jump the feared first straight, only to miss the main by 1 point.

Please note that this is the pro section that humbled many an Elite Men's rider competing at the Supercross.

Lauren also turned in a sterling Main Event appearance at the UCI BMX World Championships in Taiyuan, China.

Look out for this exciting high flyer at the Grands as she will not only be in the mix but also handing out autographs at the GHP Compund along with the USA GHP Factory riders.

Look out for the flying blonde hair, brilliant smile and that famous Aussie Accent.

Come and say “Gidday Mate”, Lauren is looking forward to meeting everyone.

2008 GRAND NATIONALS - TULSA, OK
John Purse is the King. He showed up to the grands ready to go and everyone at the Pro Spectacular saw something very special. The gate dropped and Fallen took an early lead, but when they hit the rhythm section the Jackal set up a text book move which was executed perfectly. John went wide into the last turn and dove under Fallen, pushing him wide and took the lead over the finish line. As he crossed the line he pointed to the crowd and everyone went nuts. This was one of those moments we will be talking to years from now.

Another surprise was Lauren Reynolds, the Australian Girl Pro Champion showed up and she can ride. Lauren ended up with a pair of 4ths for the weekend and won several of her qualifiers. Look for her in the US this year and believe that she can win.

Our ams faired out pretty well with Hacksaw returning to Tulsa for the first time as an adult and left with a 3rd and a 2nd. Jim has just started to focus on training and it is starting to show. The king of Northern Nv. trails is turning into a great racer. Christian Martinez is always in there and made 3 of 4 of his mains, finishing with a 4th and a 5th at the ROC and a 3rd in cruiser at the grands. Robbie was focusing on 20 and made it both days taking home a 4th and a 7th in the 17-18X. Don Fisher had a slow start but came back strong getting a 5th and a 4th in 31-31 Cruiser. Dakoda had a strong appearance at the ROC, taking a 5th in 11X.

2008 GOLDEN STATE NATIONALS - LANCASTER, CA
Lancaster Ca, if you ask anyone how to describe this high desert town they would say one word, Windy. Located a short stones throw from L.A. this relatively quiet town is home to Antelope Valley BMX and the 2008 Golden State Nationals. GHP team manager Matt Zito hooked up the toy hauler and headed out, arriving at 1:30 Thursday morning. After passing out Matt woke up to the usual sunny, hot and windy weather the locals are use to. Matt took a walk to check out the facilities and found a track that was tight, technical and with plenty of opportunity to pass.

The GHP crew started rolling in through out the day. They all decided to make a camping trip out of this opportunity and set up the GHP compound, with the big boss Greg Hill and Family, even in attendance. This lead to the normal bench racing stories around the fire pit, after some adult beverages the crew decided that pit row was looking a little plain and thought some redecorating was needed. Just ask Gary Oie of Staats Challenge racing.

Saturday morning had more wind and a good drop in temperature. This didn't stop anyone from racing hard. When the wind is high and temp is low there's only one thing that can make the day worse, rain, or does it make it better? Just before the mains started the rain came down slow and steady. This made the ABA crew decide to run pros in a one round, one chance for the money. At the end GHP pro Todd Perry crossed the finish line in 5th place.

As the mains continued the track started to deteriorate and became an ice rink. Watching the races Jim "Hacksaw" Severt decided to take off the clips pedals and go with flat pedals. Gate dropped and he was gone. At one point it looked like he had a fifty foot lead and the race in the bag, of course anything can happen in racing. Through the last two turns Jim started to loose traction and riders started gaining ground. It was so bad he was peeling out down the last straight and was past at the finish line for a third. Afterwards Jim probably wished he had changed his tires also. Sunday Jim rode to another third place finish.

2008 SOUTHWEST NATIONALS - TUCSON, AZ
Two years ago the ABA started bringing the big races back to Las Vegas Nevada. No one could predict just how big it was going to be. Two year in a row the Southwest Nationals could only be rivaled by two other Nationals on the circuit, one being the Grands. Not able to secure a venue in Las Vegas for 2008 the ABA was at a loss. What to do? Where can they put on an event that could live up to the past two years of the Southwest Nationals?

In steps Benjamin & Michelle Chandler. Owners and track operators of Desert Sunset BMX. Ben and Michelle made it happen. After numerous calls and countless meetings the Southwest nationals had a new home smack dap in the backyard of Rick Lehman and the Arizona GHP factory riders. Tuscon Arizona.

As the weekend began two GHP pros where in Tuscon. Micheal Larson flew in thursday night while Jason Herr showed up at 10:30 p.m. on friday. First round saturday had MIcheal out front until he fell victim to the slippery turns and washed out. Unfortunately his luck would not get any better till the third round when he led from start to finish. Mike didn't quite have the numbers to advance on saturday but sunday he made it all the way to the main where he finished with a second. Jason Her came to Tuscon on his usual flat pedals. He showed some good speed and overtaking on saturday but came up short by one spot, being the cutoff man. Sunday Jason swapped his luck with Larson and kept getting tangled up with other riders and going down. Both Jason and Micheal will be flying in Reno and looking for redemption and posting the top finishes that both of these talented riders are capable of doing.

2008 GREAT SALT LAKE NATIONALS - SOUTH JORDAN, UT
On July 25th the ABA held their annual Salt Lake Nationals in West Jordan Utah. Home of Rad Canyon Bmx, 100 degree weather and the biggest A pro to ride a 20?.

We were in TP's backyard and he was there to race. It has been 5 weeks since he broke his wrist and decided to cut his cast off before being released from the doctor. I don't know how he did it, but he did and came away with 5ths both days in cruiser and a 7th in A pro Sunday. He was fast, but the real news was the bet between TP and the big boss Greg Hill. Matt Zito has been sworn to secrecy but can say that if you are at the Grands, you might want to look into the GHP pits to see who will be having there pie and eating it too.

John The Jackel Purse is becoming a main stay on the ABA circuit, always giving the Vet Pro class a run for their money. With all the big guns in attendance it was anyone's game. John fought hard for a fifth and a second. Watching John race is always amazing.

Along with Todd and John almost the whole Ghp Factory team was in attendance . There have been a lot of improvements in the amateur ranks. Starting with the little guys Dakota Baca and Zach Zito. Greg has been working with these little guys and its starting to pay off. Dakota rode his cruiser to a fourth both days and two sixth in eleven expert. Zach went home with seventh both days in twelve expert and two fourths in twelve cruiser.

2008 SUMMER NATIONALS - ROSEVILLE, CA
Last weekend, through the smoky sky appeared Oak Creek BMX. Home of this years ABA Summer Nationals and the first Pro series to be held in California.

Matt Zito, Factory GHP team manager, and the riders from Reno hit the rode to nor cal and put down some good laps and some serious racing.

Friday night started off with Justin "y-chi" Wike taking a much deserved 2nd in the A pro race during the 105 degree smoky weather. He came out hard and fast and was consistent all weekend, winning several motos and finishing 5th on Saturday.

With the Nor-Cal temp gauge staying in the red, the weather didn't cool down any with Michael "Mayhem" Larson on the track. Mike has been on fire lately, showing improvement with every race and he finally pulled it of. First place. Going against the likes of Deak Brown, Travis Orasda and team mate Justin Wike. Mike finished saturday with lowest points putting him on top the podium. Sunday wasn't quite as kind to Mike, with the track getting slippery, mike fell victim to two wrecks and a second for seventh overall. It's not long now, we expect that he'll turn AA by the end of the year.

2008 DIXIELAND NATIONALS - POWDER SPRINGS, GA
For this one Robert Harris gathered up Cody Smart (GHP,Fly) and the Jackel John Purse. The Boys from Texas rolled in and put down a hurting on the rest of the Vet pro class. Cody rode to a fifth place on Saturday following it up with a 8th on Sunday. Robert Harris took his Factory GHP to the mains both days, finishing third on Saturday and a fourth on Sunday.

John The Jackel Purse. All year he's been putting down the power working his way closer to his goal, number one Vet Pro. John has been on the podium in just about every race he's entered. Saturday Purse did what he always comes to do WIN. Taking his first win of the year. John finishes Sunday one spot lower on the podium in second. Congratulations John on your first win of the year.

Robby "the Real Deal" Patterson took a weekend off, skipping Rockford, and heading to Atlanta to continue what he's been doing all year. Racing out front in two of the hardest classes around, 16 expert and 16 cruiser. In the expert ranks Robbie rode to a sixth on Saturday. Sunday he stepped up the deal and finished third. Not having enough riders in 16 cruiser Robbie was bumped up to the 17-20 cruisers both days, and where did he finish, out front both days.
